No matter how chic is the costume, or the dress, without equally elegant shoes... don't expect much.

Likewise, great cars need great wheels – wheels distinguished by first-class quality and strength that can bear heavy weights and, therefore, cope easily with the associated maximum axle loads.

Moreover, ideal wheels for the Mercedes-Benz ML or the forthcoming S and R Class vehicles should be as light as possible because such wheels tend to tramp less (lower unsprung weight) and thus ensure optimum road contact.

The result: higher cornering forces with greater reserves of safety and, in the last analysis, improved ride comfort, which Carlsson promises with the new 3/11 Ultra Light wheel, which has been designed especially with the Mercedes-Benz M Class and the forthcoming S and R Classes in mind.

Lightness - The aim of the Carlsson engineers with the new Carlsson wheel design was to develop a sporting, three-piece wheel that, although relatively light, is very strong. Carlsson's Ultra Light series forged wheels meet this requirement.

The elaborate forging process creates a homogenous metal structure with no pores or cavities and makes the wheel extremely strong. For the same wheel load as a comparable cast wheel, compressing the metal through forging permits the walls to be made significantly thinner and, therefore, lighter.

Equal distribution with forces transferred perfectly to the centre.

Besides these advantages, great attention has also been paid to the appearance of the new forged wheel. The highly-polished surfaces of the wheel disc and centre are protected by a transparent, high-gloss finish and thus loose nothing of their brilliance even after many years. The brushed insides of the 11 spokes form an attractive contrast to the highly-polished outer surfaces.

Advantages of the multi-spoke -The 3/11 multi-spoke design is the best solution for an ultra-light wheel. Thanks to the equal distribution of the 11 spokes, the forces acting on the wheel are transferred perfectly to the centre. Thus, thick walls are unnecessary and a low weight possible. Another important benefit, especially in the case of bigger cars, is the excellent brake ventilation, which results in improved braking characteristics.

Through the use of titanium screws, the new Carlsson forged wheel is readily identifiable as being both light and made of several parts. Compared to standard screws made of steel, titanium screws are not only stronger and more resistant to corrosion but also significantly lighter.

The new 3/11 UL wheel design will be available for the M Class in dimensions up to 23", for the new S Class up to 21" and for the forthcoming R class up to 23".
